Most flags in the city were flying at half mast this morning, including the one on the US Embassy, while our most prominent flag, on the Peace Tower, remained in its usual place. I don’t really understand the criteria for choosing whether a death is worthy of flags at half-mast. Why is one person’s death considered more important than another’s? Somebody dies every day, surely. Either we should have the flags lowered the whole time, out of respect for all the bereaved of this earth, or not at all.
